Broiled Swordfish Steak
What’s so great about making fish is that it’s easy, it’s quick, it’s healthy, and it’s yummy!
For an asian-style broiled swordfish steak, crush some garlic, mince some ginger, and whisk together along with some tamari and extra-virgin olive oil and a little bit of apple cider vinegar for some acidity. Place the swordfish steaks in a bag, pour in the mixture, and...

Devils on Horseback
Bacon-wrapped dates, a.k.a. devils on horseback, is a simple but very delicious appetizer. Just take the dates, stuff it with blue cheese and almonds, and wrap them in bacon. Put the dates on a rack with a baking sheet underneath and bake at 350 degrees for at least 16 minutes on each side. I’d start watching the dates after 16 minutes to make sure you don’t overcook them and keep in...

Mocha Ice Cream
I’m a sucker for ice cream but haven’t been able to indulge much since I turned primal. This is why I was ecstatic to get an ice cream-maker attachment for my KitchenAid mixer because it meant I’ll finally get to make my own! Of course, I had to make mocha flavor for my first ice cream-making endeavor (click here for the recipe).
When making homemade ice cream, it’s not...

Rosemary Braised Lamb Shank
Found some lamb shanks on sale and so I decided to make some braised lamb shanks (click here for the recipe). This dish is so great because it just keeps getting better the more you heat and reheat it.
Enjoy!
Ingredients: lamb shanks, salt, pepper, extra-virgin olive oil, onions, carrots, garlic, red wine, 28oz can of whole peeled tomatoes with juice, 1 1/4 cup chicken stock, 1 1/4 cup...

Santorum's Nephew Endorses Ron Paul, Writes... →
If you want another big-government politician who supports the status quo to run our country, you should vote for my uncle, Rick Santorum. America is based on a strong belief in individual liberty. My uncle’s interventionist policies, both domestic and foreign, stem from his irrational fear of freedom not working.

Band of Horses
I like to document the shows that I go see for my own benefit. That way, I can look back at the songs they played, the photos, the videos, and relive the moment.
Because Kings of Leon canceled their show, Band of Horses played in their stead.

Walnut Crackers
I love a good pate and a good cheese. I can eat them by themselves or with fruit but it’s just much better when there are crackers to go with them. Thank goodness for nut-based crackers!
Click here for some great nut recipes from Mark’s Daily Apple.
Enjoy!
Ingredients: walnuts, butter, baking soda, sea salt, cinnamon

Chicken Curry Wings
This is, by no means, a fancy dish. This is one of those I-just-got-home-at-8pm-I-need-to-make-something-to-eat-quick dishes. This will take you 30 minutes tops to make and doesn’t even require a recipe.
Just saute some garlic in olive oil until soft then add the chicken wings seasoned with sea salt and pepper. The wings will likely emit excess water so just wait until it evaporates to...

Chocolate Chip Cookies
Some people have to understand that when one goes primal, one doesn’t necessarily have to give up all indulgences. In the beginning, it’s just a matter of saying “no” to bad foods until you absolutely cannot say “no” anymore and that’s when you give in. But the longer you stay with it, I assure you that your palate will evolve as well. You’ll find...

Mushroom Pork Chops
I didn’t always like mushrooms. Now, for the life of me, I can’t remember why because they’re just about the yummiest things that nature ever produced. Its earthiness, its texture, its scent — sheer ambrosia. Combine it with pork chops and you’ll have one of my favorite dishes. Just pan-fry some pork chops seasoned with salt, ground black pepper and garlic powder and...

Portishead
Oh man… They blew me away. This was their first show in NYC in 15 years so I guess it’s understandable that people were getting really emotional. Beth Gibbons has an amazing voice. It was fan-freaking-tastic!

Vanilla Bean Cheesecake
Cheesecakes… Who doesn’t love ‘em? I found this really great primal vanilla bean cheesecake recipe (click here). A few changes I’d like to make for the next go-round:
Use raw honey, not stevia - I’ve decided once and for all that unless I absolutely have to, I’m only going to be using raw honey in my baking. I wanted to use as little liquid as I can in making...

October 19th - Black THIS Out
Attention: Mainstream Media
We the people demand an end to your lies and refusal to admit Ron Paul is a 2012 GOP Frontrunner. On October 19th, 2011, tens of thousands of Americans shall stand together to send you a very clear message. We stand as one with Ron Paul and his mission to change the course of history. This noble struggle is one we have been so long engaged, and which we have...

Vinegar Gloss Chicken
I tuned in to “Mad Hungry” one time and watched Lucinda Scala Quinn make this dish. She made it sound and look so delicious that I just had to try it for myself (click here for the recipe).
The original proportion of red wine vinegar and chicken broth didn’t work for me; I thought it was too sour. Normally, I fix flavors as I go along but I neglected to do it for this one. The...

Coconut Bread
Yep, I still like bread and I still really miss it. I try to be good though so I make my own bread and pastries.
One day, I came upon this coconut bread recipe from Mark’s Daily Apple. The recipe originally included raw honey (1-2 tbsp) but I took it out because my goal was to substitute this for a regular loaf of bread. I want to be able to eat this with savory foods like bacon and eggs or...

Solving the Union Square Numbers Once and For All
Taken from an NYU local article (click here to view the original article).
By Sharon Wu on April 13th, 2010
No one ever seems to know what that spinning number thing in Union Square is, so we’ll tell you the real, honest answer to settle the issue once and for all: no it’s not the national debt or countdown to 2012, it’s a clock.
The spinning numbers, titled “The Passage,” are part of a...

Crispy Honey Duck
I found duck breasts on sale and I could just feel the grocery gods smiling upon me. Okay maybe I’m exaggerating but I just really like duck and was happy I found a good deal.
I was looking for a recipe and found what sounded like a really good marinade (click here) but I didn’t want to roast my duck breasts. I didn’t think roasting it would give me as crisp a skin as I wanted...

Perfect Summer Cake
I wouldn’t change a thing in this coconut flour orange cake recipe (click here). My only complaint, if you can call it that, was the frosting kept liquefying. I guess it was just too hot in my apartment. This didn’t alter its taste, though. It was still light, fresh and oh-so-yummy. It was perfect!
Even though I call this the perfect summer cake, I see myself making this all year...

A Keeper
Have I already mentioned how much I love chocolate? I’m especially fond of flour-based chocolate cake (as opposed to flourless). I’m so happy that I found a recipe that’s a keeper!
Here is Elana’s Pantry’s coconut flour-based chocolate cake with vegan frosting (click here for the recipe). The only thing I would change is the frosting. Don’t get me wrong, it was...

Roasted Mini-Chickens
No matter the state of the economy, it’s always a good idea to cut corners wherever one can. I, myself, tend to look at the items that grocery stores have on sale to see if anything looks interesting and I take it from there. One day, I saw that cornish game hens were on sale and having never worked with that particular ingredient before, I decided to give it a try.
What are cornish game...

Go Green Bananas
I was just lounging in my apartment when I saw that I had overripe bananas on my kitchen counter so I went to work. I overhauled a banana muffins recipe (click here) to make it primal and it came out so good!
Enjoy!
Ingredients: coconut flour, stevia, baking soda, baking powder, salt, eggs, grapeseed oil, sour cream, vanilla extract, mashed ripe bananas, bittersweet/dark chocolate chips...

My Salt Fix
I make this honey crystal almonds dish (click here for the recipe) from the Almond Board of California all the time but instead of sprinkling the almonds with turbinado sugar, I sprinkle it with sea salt instead. Not only am I not supposed to consume processed sugars anymore, honey is already sweet in itself so why would anyone want to add sugar to it? I think salt is a far superior alternative.

"No" to Undeclared Wars →
Best Blog Comment I’ve Ever Read by: Paul Mulshine/The Star Ledger @Brian Barton - I am a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. I support Ron Paul and I support his foreign policy. I am sure you would not dare call me a Paultard to my face. No, you would give me the same parroted line I hear 100 times a day, “Thank you for your service”. When I hear some flabby couch potato like you ...

Light-as-Air Chocolate Mousse
I was going through my older posts and I noticed that I don’t have that many “chocolate” entries which is strange because I’m a chocolate addict. I need to remedy this. Let’s start with this divine dark chocolate mousse (click here for the recipe).
Note to self: add a layer of chocolate covered pecans as the crust next time to add texture to this dish.
Enjoy!

Chicago Trout Substitute
When I was in Chicago a couple of months ago, I had the pleasure of dining at Marcus Samuelsson’s C-House restaurant. I had just gotten rained on and was starving so I was really looking forward to a great meal. That’s exactly what I got with my order of Rushing Waters Trout (nichols cauliflower, almonds, and tarragon). My favorite thing about it is they serve the whole fish (no fillet...

Oh what a show it was! The view was incredible and the setlist was amazing. It was so much fun despite Scott Weiland’s drunken ramblings and singing.

Silver Dollars for Breakfast
I like the contrast of salty and sweet so my favorite brunch meals usually include salty bacon with yummy pancakes/waffles/crepe. But now that I’ve gone primal, I can’t have regular flour so I made it my mission to collect delicious, primal-friendly brunch recipes.

Celebrating with Vanilla Torte
I recently made vanilla torte with blueberry filling (click here for the recipe) and chocolate ganache for a special occasion. I wasn’t very happy with the end result because the ganache wasn’t perfect; it was my first try at making it. Oh well, there’s always a next time. On the upside, it still tasted delish!
Enjoy!

Guilt-Free Chocolate Indulgence
I’ve always loved chocolates. I just cannot resist it. Dark chocolate was not a favorite of mine, though. I found it too bitter. But of course, once I became primal, I didn’t have a choice but to adapt. Nowadays, I find chocolates with less than 60% cacao too sweet.
Here’s trial by fire #14: dark chocolate truffles with shredded coconut. Too bad I only got to take this one shot. I’ll update this...

Filipino Style Pork Belly
If I had to limit myself to one protein to consume for the rest of my life, hands down, I’d pick pork and it’s all because of two words — pork belly.
I wanted to grill pork belly because I was missing home and “inihaw na liempo” so much. But being that I live in an apartment, I don’t have the luxury of a real grill. A stove top grill just can’t compare to the...

Fragrant Cookies
I love it when the smell of baking fills my home. But when I made these treats, my home smelled even better than usual when I bake — it smelled of lavender. My food tasters thought the scent a bit strange at first as they bit into the cookie but they all grew to love it.
Here’s trial by fire #13: lemon lavender cookies from Elana’s Pantry (click here for the recipe).

Chicken Sandwich With a Twist
To be honest, I’m not much of a sandwich person but this was one sandwich that I really got into. Yes, it was a bit messy to eat but if the food’s this yummy, it’s worth it.
Enjoy!
Ingredients: chicken breast with skin on, homemade mayonnaise, bacon, arugula/lettuce, tomato, avocado
